Biography

Susan Vass was part of the very first levy of Baby Boomers, born in a small town in Minnesota. She grew up in Alexandria, MN where she was co-valedictorian of her graduating class. She began college at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, got married in her junior year and entered the workforce. Eventually, she attended college at the University of Minnesota and graduated – finally! – from Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis, MN. She majored in psychology, sociology and speech/communications.

Susan has been performing full-time professionally since 1982. She has had a one-woman show at the prestigious 1,400 seat Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, MN which she sold out on a Tuesday night. She has opened for such national acts as John Prine, Andy Williams, The Captain and Tennille, Doc Severinsen, Jay Leno, Joan Rivers, The Smothers Brothers and Lee Greenwood. A highlight was several appearances on the homegrown radio hit, “A Prairie Home Companion” with Garrison Keillor. Susan’s act has also taken her to Canada and to all 50 states, with the exception of Alaska, Hawaii and Vermont. She would love to complete that list.

The author of the best-selling humor book, “Laughing Your Way To Good Health”, Susan has won three awards from the Minnesota Women’s Press, has been designated “A Minnesota Treasure” by the late governor Rudy Perpich and a “Founding Feminist for Women in the Arts” by the Minnesota Women’s Political Caucus.

One of the best features of Susan’s act is its universal appeal. She has entertained junior high school students and at the Senior Options Expo; Temple Israel to St. Andrews Lutheran Church to Catholic Charities. (Susan’s act is so clean she has entertained NUNS on numerous occasions!); Home Economists in Business to big game hunters; The National Chiefs of Police Convention to prison inmates; The League of Minnesota Cities to Minnesota Rural Futures. A short list of the banquets at which she has entertained would look like several pages of the Fortune 500 list: 3M, SuperValu, General Mills, RBC Dain Rauscher, The Bush Foundation, Target, ReMax Realty, National Association of Defense Counsel, Mayo Clinic, Medtronic, Wells Fargo Bank, as well as numerous direct sales companies such as Creative Memories, Tastefully Simple and Pampered Chef. Another nice feature is Susan’s ability to tailor special material to each unique audience.
