Sharon Planer, pianist
Fast Facts About Sharon Planer: Sharon Planer has been performing professionally for 20 years. Born and raised in south Minneapolis, she received an AA Degree as a Medical Receptionist from Normandale College and participated in piano performance and training. Upon graduation she worked as a medical receptionist at a local hospital and worked part-time evenings performing dinner music at local restaurants and clubs. What are some of your career highlights? Providing music at one of a St. Paul mayor’s inaugural events and then in one of his re-election events with the governor and senator present. Even though I’ve played for many wedding ceremonies, each one is a highlight because I am honored that they have selected me to provide music and to play a role in their special day. I’ve played for conventions that last several days which gives me the opportunity to enjoy getting to know the same group of people over a longer period of time because I’ll play for their Welcome Event one night and their Banquet the next evening. Playing for a Winter Solstice Party was a delight. There were to be a variety of ethnicities present and my challenge was to provide music for each. Just a few of the clients Sharon Planer has performed for:
What’s the best thing about being a performer? “I absolutely love creating atmosphere with my music. It gives me great pleasure to select music that fits the style of each particular event. With each event, I meet so many wonderful people. I get to know the clients when I discuss their upcoming events. I get to work with catering directors, servers and other staff as well. My job is exciting because each client and event is unique” Favorite Hobbies? “Playing piano for my own enjoyment. I am constantly discovering new music to add to my repertoire. It’s fun to upgrade my portable pianos and sound equipment. I love to bicycle, especially along the parkways and Minneapolis Chain of Lakes. My most adventurous bike trip was the Jim Klobuchar ride from Forest Lake to Gooseberry Falls and back. My biggest worry was, “How was I going to carry a week’s supply of food on my bicycle?” until Jim explained the secret. Swimming is another activity that I enjoy.” Any unique facts about your act? No piano? No problem! Sharon can set up her portable piano and sound system for small, intimate gatherings or large venues. She has back up keyboards and sound equipment. She dresses in classy, elegant attire. |
