Fast Facts About Jack Tango: Charlie Roth, guitar, harmonica, and lead and harmony singer. Charlie was born in Madison Minnesota, population 1900, to a family of six children. His parents were active in church choir and town theatre and owned part of a Bottling company, which was also a beer wholesale operation. All the children learned to sing with the choir and worked sorting bottles and loading trucks. The Roth’s were known for their singing voices and Charlie sang his first solo with the choir at age 9. At age 12 Charlie received a guitar for Christmas and started singing and playing songs out of a Mel Bay beginner’s guitar book. By age 16 he had learned several songs and even written a few.
By the time Charlie graduated from college Charlie’s second band “The Taxmen” was working as much as 5 nights a week. Charlie had studied music, art, theatre, film, history, anthropology and any class that caught his fancy in college, but most of all he learned the art and craft of making music and making people dance. It was all he wanted to do so he had no choice but to become a full-time working musician. Rock ‘n roll, blues, country, folk, reggae, Cajun/Zydeco--he learned to play it all and people danced and sang along. Now in their 10th year Charlie’s current dance band “Jack Tango” has toured mostly in the Midwest. They signed with the G. L. Berg entertainment company and find all kinds of work playing resorts, fairs, and corporate functions, clubs and weddings. It is good and honest work and it is great fun. It is obvious to everyone how much they enjoy their work. Charlie and his band mates get to make their living spreading joy and happiness through out the land. |
